Bruss, August (1 Apr. 1892 - 10 Dec. 1965)

SPENCER - August Bruss, a lifelong resident of the Spencer area, died of complications at his home here last night. He was 73 years of age. Funeral services will be held at Spencer Trinity Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Monday with burial in St. John’s Lutheran cemetery. The Rev. Daniel Ahrens will officiate.

Friends may call at the Jasperson Funeral Home in Spencer from Sunday morning until Monday noon, and then at the church.

Mr. Bruss was born in the Marathon County town of Brighton on April 1, 1892, and received his education in the township and Spencer village schools.

He was married on April 30, 1918 in St. John’s Lutheran Church to Frances Manthe, who survives him. The couple farmed near Spencer until 1949, when they moved to the village. Previous to his retirement in 1957, Mr. Bruss worked for the Morris-Anderson sawmill and the Gateway Lumber Company.

Other survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Gerhard (Valda) Ziehlsdorf, Milwaukee; Mrs. Leonard (Florence) Jasinski, Milwaukee; and Mrs. William (Marcia) Denk, Greenwood; a son, Elmer, Spencer; 14 grand-children and a sister, Mrs. Ida Seefeldt and two brothers, Frank and Otto Bruss, all of Spencer.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, five brothers and two sisters.
