BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Vera Weltzin Zempel, 87, of Friendship Village, 8104 Highwood Dr. Bloomington, formerly of Menomonie and Eau Claire, died Friday, May 22, 1998 at the Village.

She was born Sept. 3 1910, in Ludington Township, Eau Claire County, to Emil and Edith (Pickett) Wiese. She graduated from the Augusta High School in 1929, Eau Claire Rural Normal School in 1930, Wis. State College in 1957 with a 2 year degree in Rural Education and in 1964 with a B.S. Degree from Wisconsin State College in Eau Claire. Her teaching career started at Pine View Country School in Ludington and later taught at Sherman Creek Elementary School in Eau Claire. She retired in 1976 after 30 years of teaching.

She married Joachim Weltzin on Aug. 6, 1933 in Ludington. She later married Wm. Zempel on Oct. 7, 1967 in Eau Claire. He passed away March 10, 1972.

Vera had lived in Menomonie for 18 years. She moved to Eau Claire in 1958 and lived there until moving to Bloomington in 1994.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire where she served as a Church Deacon. She was a member of its Library Club, Ladies Circle and of the Keenager Group. She was also a member of the Wisconsin Area Educator's Retirement Association.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Eleanor Merrill of Novato, CA and Alice (Butch) Beihl of Inver Grove Heights, MN; 2 sisters, Elma Boyea of Cadott and Vivian Lambrecht of Augusta; 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Clarence Wiese.

Funeral services will be held Tues. May 26, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire with Rev. John Hosmann officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call from 11 a.m. and until time of services Tuesday at the church. Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta in charge of arrangements.
