Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Thayer visited with friends at
Neillsville, Tuesday.
Mrs. Ed Schroeder entertained the Circle, Wednesday.
Mrs. G. E. Amidon and daughter Lois visited Neillsville,
Tuesday.
Jake Breseman and Kearney Davis were Neillsville
visitors, Tues.
Archie Howard was on the sick list the first of the
week.
Mrs. W.S. Davis spent Wednesday with Mrs. Geo. Wilson at
the Marshfield Hospital.
Mrs. Rice Davis spent Wednesday at Neillsville.
Mrs. Elizabeth Fuller and Mrs. Mott Osgood were
Neillsville callers, Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Free Converse moved into their new home on
the west side of town, Monday.
Chas. Neinas was indisposed and confined to the house a
couple days this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brisky of Elkhart Lake came last Friday
and made an over Sunday visit with Mrs. Amelia Reichert and her family.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Prange with their three children and
his brother Walter Prange of Ebbe came Tuesday and went home with Gottlieb
Hillert for a visit.
Mrs. Dan Gluch Jr. suffered with quinsy last week and
now little Leona and Ronald have the same disease.
Mrs. Phil Shaw returned here Tuesday and instead of
their moving to Green Bay they shipped their household goods to Chippewa Falls,
Wednesday. He has rented a saloon
there and took possession last Sat.
Mrs. Ernest Murray and two children of Beach, N. Dak.,
after several
months visit with Mrs. Mack of Loyal took the train here Tuesday for the
home trip.
Mrs.
D.S. Rausch and Miss Emilina Kimball spent Tuesday with friends at Marshfield,
particularly Mrs. Geo. Wilson and Mrs. Geo Wilding at the hospital.
George and Julia Prom of Harvey, N. Dak., who since last
Thursday had been visiting between the Will and Mrs. Nick Hubing Homes, departed
on the return trip, Tuesday.
Mrs. A.C. Holmes came over from Neillsville last Friday
and has since been visiting in the Homer Downer, Dr. Rath and Her. Schoengarth
homes.
Mrs. Dave Steele and son, Merle, spent Tuesday in
visiting Mr. Steele who is in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield.
She reports him as doing nicely and well on the road to recovery.
Albert Marg was a county seat visitor Saturday.
Mrs. Geo. Huntley was an over Sunday visitor with
friends at Neillsville.
Dr. T.F. Weeks bought a Ford Touring car of Knorr and &
Rausch last Monday.
Mrs. John Pietenpol was at the county seat, Wednesday.
Miss Mollie Grasser visited relatives at Marshfield,
Wednesday.
Dr. Ross made a professional trip to Marshfield,
Wednesday.
Knorr and Rausch unloaded another carload of Ford cars
last Sunday.
Mrs. J.M. Tompkins, Mrs. John Pietenpol and Miss Mollie
Grasser were Neillsville shoppers Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Roice of Marshfield who were here visiting
at E. R. Wonser’s returned home Sat.
Mrs. H.B. Holmes and daughter Inez, left for Rochester,
Minn., last Monday where Miss Inez goes for medical treatment.
Fred Davis who was on the sick list for the past week is
able to be about again.
W.S., Davis, Henry Williams and E.A. Beeckler transacted
business at Neillsville Saturday.
Earl Marsh after a several days visit here with home
folks returned to Duluth, Saturday.
Mrs. Aug. Schmoll and daughter Norma and Mrs. Gerzemelle
and daughter Amanda spent Saturday eve with friends at Neillsville.
Herman Behm and daughter Miss Laura are here from
Brillion since Monday evening assisting their relatives in the Wm. Bartz home.
Mrs. Joern and little son who were here from Fall Creek
visiting her son, Ben and his wife returned home on Saturday.
Mrs. Elmer Dennis who recently underwent an operation at
the hospital at Eau Claire returned from that place last Saturday, apparently
well on the road to complete recovery.
Miss Effie Harriman of Chili made a weeks end visit at
Frank Davis’ and went home Monday.
S.E. Jones of Necedah visited old friends in Washburn,
the first of the week and went home Wednesday.
Mrs. Henry Albrecht of Chili has been a sympathetic and
helpful guest at the Wm. Bartz home since Tuesday.
Mrs. Frank Lavey had an honest and true birthday party
last Saturday on her birthday, and everybody had a good time.
Mrs. Frank Davis went to Chili Wednesday to attend the
funeral of little Lois Dow, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dow and
granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Webster.
Mrs. Herman Riedel and baby Gertrude are visiting at
Sidney since Wednesday. They are
expected home on Saturday.
M.J. Gerlach entertained a bunch of his gentlemen
friends at a stag card party one night the first of the week and all present
voted it a very pleasant affair.
Mrs. Herman Schoengarth is fast recovering her health
and is enjoying life with her husband and little daughter on their timber tract
near Romadka, since last week.
Mrs. Chester Sheldon and daughter Genevieve are here
from Chester at the hotel waiting for sleighing when they will move their
household goods down from Unity by team.
Ross Paulson bought a carload of horses from Iowa
parties at Neillsville last week and sold 6 of them in that city before leaving.
A number of them have been disposed of here about and 4 of them left
today to go to a contractor at Sheboygan.
Mr. Will Breitenbach joined his wife and two children in
the Gust Bergeman home last Saturday and on Monday they all departed for Black
Creek where they intend to visit relatives for a short time before leaving for
their new home in Montana.
Mrs. Jane Owens came up from Milwaukee Wednesday
accompanied by her 11 year old grandson, Vernon Lapp, one of Mr. and Mrs. Hank
Lapp’s twins. Mrs. Owens and Vernon
are at the Albert Sternitzky home where Mrs. Owens has employment.
She reports Hank Lapp, her son-in-law to be quite under the weather and a
long ways from being well.
Walter Graves and Herman Wegner were Neillsville callers
Saturday.
Gottlieb Hillert and Mrs. Hahm visited friends at Ebbe
last Saturday.
Mrs. Chas. Hudson of Neillsville spent Friday afternoon
here with her daughter, Miss Alt.
Mrs. Otto Wittke has been very ill and under the
doctors’ care since last week.
Mrs. P.J. Kammeter and little son Stanley are home since
Tuesday from several weeks visit with relatives in Milwaukee.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Berg entertained friends at both
dinner and supper last Sunday and most kindly included the Editor who with the
balance of his family out of town, was drifting about like an old derelict.
Mrs. George Wilson was taken suddenly and alarmingly ill
last week, Thursday and her life was taken to the Marshfield Hospital on the
midnight train that night and underwent a most critical operation as a last
resort. Her husband, her physician
and two of her close friends, Mrs. W. J. Thayer and Mrs. W.S. Davis, accompanied
her there and remained beside her during the operation and all but the doctor,
for days afterwards. It was with
prayerful thanks they viewed her return to consciousness and the dawn of each
day since sees her gaining in her reach toward the goal of returning health and
strength. She enjoys the visits of
friends now and is counting the days until she can return and be at home with
them. Her sister, who was summoned
here from Marshalltown, Iowa, being satisfied of her returning health and having
pressing duties at home, departed on the return trip Tuesday.
Her father-in-law Mr. Wilson of Plymouth too has returned to his home and
her devoted husband makes frequent trips to and from the hospital quite
satisfied that she is in good hands and on the way to ultimate recovery.
Mrs. Glines and son spent Sunday with relatives at
Merrillan.
Gottlieb Pischer transacted business at the county seat
Thursday.
Mrs. Frank Furgeson and Miss Lulu Beecher spend Thursday
with friends at Marshfield.
Wm. Storm purchased a player piano of Prof. G.D. Vincent
last week.
Mrs. O.A. Peterson is home from her visit at Dorchester
since last week Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Becker went to Marshfield Thursday to
visit his brother William’s wife from Edgar who is in the hospital there.
Mrs. W.J. Thayer spent Thursday with Mrs. Geo. Wilson at
the Marshfield Hospital.
Mrs. Isaac Higgins and son Floyd of Gotham are visiting
her mother, Mrs. Robert Gailbreath since Tues.
Mrs. Chas Reed visited her friend Mrs. Geo Wilson at the
hospital at Marshfield, Saturday.
Mrs. Melvina Wright is home from her visit at Marshfield
since last week Thursday.
Elmer Knickle is on the sick list and under the doctor’s
care since Wednesday.
Mrs. Webb Winn has quite recovered from her recent
illness and was out to the Circle, Wednesday.
Mrs. Edward Schroeder entertained the Royal Neighbors
Wednesday evening.
Principal Max Geimer and family moved into the rooms
over the meat market Saturday.
Wm., Ernest and Henry Sternitzky with the latter’s
daughter, Miss Ann and Herman Yankee went to Ashland yesterday to attend the
funeral of Mrs. Aug Yankee, a sister of the Sternizkey men and a sister-in-law
of the Yankee’s
Mrs. G.E. Amidon will entertain the O.E.S. Birthday Club
Saturday evening. Mr. Amidon is
joining with her in this matter. The
husbands of all O.E.S. and with all visiting members cordially invited.
Fred Wright went to Eau Claire Tuesday and returned next
day accompanied by his daughters, Katie and Bernice.
Bernice is well on the road to recovery and Katie had only been visiting
Bernice there since Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas Balfaze of York took their 13 year old
daughter, Ethel to Marshfield, Wednesday where at the hospital she underwent an
operation for appendicitis that afternoon.
Mrs. Geo Wilding was able to leave the hospital at
Marshfield on Wednesday since which time she has been at the Wm. Uthmeier home
in that city. It is expected that
she will be able to be at home here at Kurth by Sunday.
Chas Schuelke’s 60th birthday Tuesday will
long be remembered by Mr. and Mrs. Schuelke and the houseful of friends who
sprang a surprise on them that evening and gave the occasion the celebration
befitting it. The Prange’s from Ebbe
who were visiting at Gottlieb Hillert’s were among the prime movers to this
event and they claim they would go twice that distance at anytime to see a
repetition of so pleasurable an affair.
Mr. and Mrs. Schuelke are certainly blessed with friends and the house
which accommodates them in large numbers.
