Komanec, Joseph (10 MAR 1925 - 19 FEB 2013)

Joseph Komanec, 87, of Gilman, died on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at Gilman Care Center, under the care of Hope Hospice. He was born on March 10, 1925 in the Ladysmith Hospital, the son of the late John and Magdeline (Raboss) Komanec.

Joe grew up in the area and logged for a few years. On February 26, 1949, he married Elizabeth Prasnicky at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. The couple farmed in Gilman all of their lives.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty of Gilman; seven children, Joanne (Jeff) Ahlers of Jump River, Joe (Lynne) Komanec of Gilman, Louise Komanec of Woodbury, Minn., John (Donna) Komanec of Gilman, Rose (Tom) Reyzer of Altoona, George (Roxanne) Komanec of Bloomer and Tina (Roger) Nichols of Gilman; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mitzie Shewczyk of Gilman and Margaret Badzinski of Thorp.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Vincent and Paul; sisters, Mary Vanderport, Betty Nygren, Anna Komanec and Bertha Kliscz; and grandchildren, Brent and Krystal Komanec.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman.

Father Madanu Sleeva Raju officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Gilman Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
