Joseph Hennlich (1 Sep 1879 - 11 Mar 1953)

Funeral services were held from Sacred Heart church in Portland, Ore., Saturday morning, March 14, for Joseph Hennlich, 73, former resident of this community, and burial was in a Portland cemetery. He died in RestHarbor hospital in the Oregon city on March 11.

Joseph Hennlich was born Sept. 1, 1879, in Komotan, Province of Bohemia, Austria. He came to the United States in 1897, arriving here on June 6 of that year to join other members of his family who had preceded him to this community. During his early years here he followed his occupation of painter, he and his brother William working together under the firm name of Hennlich Bros. around the turn of the century.

He later purchased a farm which he operated until 1921 when he sold out and moved to Portland, where he returned to painting, following that trade until his retirement in 1951. He never married, and for the past years he made his home with a nephew, William Eggert, at Vancouver, Wash.

Other survivors include his brother here, William Hennlich; a sister, Mrs. Herman (Ida) Eggert, Milwaukee, and a number of nieces and nephews.
