Harold Herman Killed in Accident

Enroute from Enumclaw, Wash., to Mount Carroll to visit over the holidays with relatives, Harold Herman, 30, was killed instantly at 12:40 a. m. November 12 when his car was hit by a Union Pacific streamliner at a crossing in Shuyler, Nebraska, according to word received by his brother, Oliver Herman of this city.

Police in Shuyler said Herman was alone in the automobile which was completely demolished in the crash. The body was brought to the Frank Funeral Chapel at Mount Carroll where funeral services were held.

Following 30 months in the army, including service in the European theatre, Harold visited in Mount Carroll and then went to California 18 months ago to live with a sister, later moving to Washington. He had resided in Mount Carroll since he was eleven years old.

He was born October 23, 1917 in Spencer, Wisc., the son of John J. and Anna Toepfer Herman. Besides his brother Oliver in Mount Carroll he is survived by his father residing at Loyal, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. M. A. (Myrtle) Gameley of Enumelaw and Mrs. Floyd (Gladys) Hodd of Curtis. Wis.

Harold attended the Mount Carroll schools and before entering the army was associated with his brother in the operation of a portable feed grinding mill.
