Mellenthin-Soderstrom

On Saturday, August 23 at Redeamer Lutheran Church, Rockford, Ill., Rev. E. C. Beversdorf united in marriage Miss Doris V. Soderstrom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Soderstrom, 1401 7th Ave., Rockford, to Raymond A. Mellenthin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mellenthin, Unity.

Doris chose to wear a white satin gown with a lace yoke, long pointed sleeves and bustle. Her finger-tip veil fell from a crown of mother of pearl orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of white roses centered with an orchid.

Her only attendant was her sister June who wore a pink dress and carried white and red roses, with a crown of matching flowers in her hair.

Lloyd Mellenthin of Milwaukee, a cousin of the groom, was best man, Wilber and Gordon Mellenthin acted as ushers.

The double ring ceremony was performed before an altar decorated with ferns, white gladioli and pink asters.

The soloist, Joyce Franzene, was accompanied at the organ by Marion McFarlane. During the ceremony Joyce sang “O Promise Me” and “The Lord’s Prayer” at the reception she sang, “Because,” and “I Love You Truly”.

Mrs. Soderstrom and Mrs. Mellenthin, mothers of the bried [sic] and groom, wore street length dresses and had gardenia corsages.

A reception for about 50 guests followed at the La Fayette hotel.

The young couple are at home to friends at 2710 Bildahl St., Rockford.

Doris attended East Senior High School at Rockford and Ray graduated from Spencer High School and served 4 years with the Army Air Force, 14 months were spent over seas in Burma and India with the 10th Air Force.

Both Ray and Doris are employed by the J. L. Clark Manufacturing Co. of Rockford, Ill.

Out of town gusts [sic] at the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. A. Mellenthin, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mellenthin and Wilbur Mellenthin, Unity; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Luepke and Jean, Spencer; Mr. Albert Schofield, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mellenthin, Beaver Dam; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Pelky Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Cy O’Connell of Chicago.

The Record joins their many local friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy wedded life.
