Kurth, Wilhelmina (15 FEB 1838 – 29 MAY 1915)

Mrs. Wilhelmina Kurth, widow of Charles Kurth, died last Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Wilding, on the Ridge. She was born Wilhelmina Gandt at Trieglaff, Germany, on Feb. 15, 1838. At the age of twelve years she came to this country and on Nov. 7, 1859, she was united in marriage to Charles Kurth. They came to Clark County in 1871, locating on a farm five miles east of the city at what later became known as Kurth’s Corners. In addition to the farm, they opened up a hotel which became one of the landmarks of Clark County. In 1883 Mr. Kurth died and Mrs. Kurth continued to operate the hotel and farm until about five years ago, when she retired from active life and has made her home with her children. She was a woman of fine mentality and was an ideal help-mate for the trying times at which she and her husband came to Clark County. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her, for she was charitable in her disposition, energetic and conscientious and lived her life so that there will remain many memories of her kindly deeds. She was the mother of seven children, two of whom, Adolph and Bertha, died many years ago. She is survived by the following children: Richard, Robert, William, Mrs. Fred Handke and Mrs. George Wilding. Also be one sister, Mrs. Albertina Kurth, of Milwaukee. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the German Lutheran Church east of the city, known as Fisher Church, and interment was made in the cemetery there.
