Perington, William L. (9 April 1933 – 3 April 2010) With Flag

 

William L. Perington, 76, of Hatfield died at his home in the Town of Adams, Jackson County, Saturday, April 3, 2010, after a long battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

 

He was born in Rock County April 9, 1933, to William M. and Ada V. (Blum) Perington.  He grew up near the Sugar River Bottoms in southern Wisconsin, where he learned to be an avid hunter and fisherman.

 

Bill was a longtime member of the 32nd Division of Veterans of the Wisconsin National Guard and the National Rifleman Association.

 

Bill was employed as the plant engineer of Beloit Woodland Corporation, a tree-harvesting equipment manufacturer, at Ripon Food in Ripon, at Schuld Manufacturing Company in Mosinee, at Land-O-Lakes in Spencer and as a sales representative for Paget Equipment Company in Marshfield.

 

In 1995 he retired and was able to go back to his hobbies of hunting, fishing and his favorite – trap shooting with is friends, wife and family.  He was active with the Black River Gun Club, Millston-Knapp Rod and Gun Club and the Neillsville Gun Club.  He was a member of the Old Geezers Shoot at the Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club.

 

Surviving are his wife of over 40 years, Karen Melstrand Larson; a son Jeffrey Perington, Ripon; a daughter, Denise (Duane) formerly Hughes, Shambour, Prior Lake, MN; step-children, Paul Visocky Larson, Hatfield, Peggy (Jerry) formerly Koenig, Armson, Black River Falls, Lloyd Larson, White Lake, Michael Larson, Marshfield, and Scott (Jodi and her daughter, Traci) Larson, Elk Mound; grandchildren, Michelle (Roger) Velie, Ripon, Dr. Phoebe M. Hughes, Rochester, MN, Jason Perington, Omro, and Robert Hughes, River Falls; great-grandchildren, Austin, Paige, and Josh Velie, Ripon; step-grandchildren, John (DeEtta) Koenig, Hatfield, Cassandra and McKenzie Larson, Marshfield, and Ryan, Eric and Wade Larson, Elk Mound; two sisters, Mary Fowler and Betty Johnson, both of Brodhead; nephews and nieces, Randy (Brenda) Fowler, Wendy (Steve) Oliver, and Laurie Kettle all of Brodhead, Wade (Barb) Johnson, Mauston, and Gwen (Jim) Swain and Rodney Johnson, both of Brodhead; and many great nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Clayton Fowler and Gaylord Johnson; and a nephew, Dr. Donald (Vonda) Fowler.

 

Per Bill’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.  A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at a later date.

 

Memorials may be given to either the Hatfield Fire Department or to the Black River Gun Club.

 

Torgerson’s Funeral Service (715-284-4321), of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
