Thurow, James Roland (14 July 1954 – 10 July 2008)

James Roland Thurow, 53, died unexpectedly July 10 in Tulsa, OK. He was born July 14, 1954, in Black River Falls.

Jim graduated in 1972 from Black River Falls Senior High School as the highest academic achieving male in his class. Jim played football, basketball and golf. He was a member of the National Honor Society, served as a class officer and on student council, was founding president of the ski club he and his sister started and was involved in many other school activities. He spent his summers stocking fish for the Department of Natural Resources.

Jim graduated with honors in biology from Lawrence University in Appleton in 1976. He graduated from the law school at Arizona State University in 1980. He practiced environmental law in Phoenix before his bipolar disorder worsened, altering his life. After relocating to Tulsa in the mid-90s, he worked for the State of Oklahoma Child Protective Services and continued his environmental pursuits.

Jim is survived by his father, Roland Thurow of Ocala, FL; sisters, Lisa Thurow of Denver, CO, Cathryn Thurow; brother-in-law, Robert Cornwell; and cherished nieces, Emma and Rose of San Francisco.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeraldine, and sister, Lora.

A memorial service was held in Tulsa in July at East Side Christian Church where Jim was a member. His family and law school pals are gathering in Phoenix, AZ, Sept. 27 for a memorial and reunion in Jim’s honor.
