BRFHS Alumni Banquet Plans (2010)

Plans underway for 2010 BRFHS Alumni Banquet

It’s that time of year again.  May 29 is the annual banquet meeting of the Black River Falls High School (BRFHS) Alumni Association.  All alumni and attendees of BRFHS are invited to attend this year’s banquet.

Reservations may be made by mail no later than May 1, 2010.  Mail the reservation request for yourself and a guest to Judy Dugan, Secretary, BRFHS Alumni Association W 11227 Spaulding Road, Black River Falls WI 54615.  Include your name(s)/ guest name, address and year of graduation (or years of attendance) along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.  A confirmation notice will be returned to you.

Dan Mills, manager of the Philip B. Mills Foundation (PBMF), has notified the alumni officers the PBMF will again be assuming the financial responsibility for this year’s gathering.  The foundation provided the financial sponsorship of the banquet in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 as well.  The PBMF was established in 1979, following Philip Mills’ death.

Philip B. “Peeper” Mills was born in Black River Falls in 1902.  He was a member of the BRFHS Class of 1921.  He began working at the Jackson County Bank as a teller in 1923.  Peeper was associated with the bank for 56 years, serving the last 28 years as its president.  He served as a bank director for 37 years.  Peeper was a 54-year member of the Black River Lodge #74 Free and Accepted Masons and served as its secretary for 45 years.  He also was active in the BRF Rotary Club.

The classes having graduated 25, 30, 35, 40, etc., years ago will be recognized during the evening’s meeting.  The Class of 1960, celebrating its 50th anniversary since graduation, will be the honored class.

One of the BRFHS Alumni Association’s missions is to provide a scholarship(s) to BRFHS graduates. If you’d like to include a donation to the scholarship fund with your reservation request (check made payable to the BRFHS Alumni Association) that would be appreciated.  Otherwise, if you as a class are making a donation to the scholarship fund, you might consider presenting it to the association the night of the banquet.  Even if you are not planning on attending the banquet, feel free to forward your donation check.

The 2009-2010 association’s officers (Clarice Hanson Franke, president; Barbara Larvick Radke, first vice president; Judy Dugan Thomas, secretary-treasurer; and Grace Hanson Nordahl, second vice president) look forward to seeing you the 29th of May at the BRFHS. The social hour is 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m.
