Larson, Robert E. (30 January 1939 – 13 December 2009) With Flag 

Robert E. “Bob” Larson, 70, of Northfield and formerly of Kenosha died Sunday, December 13, 2009, at his home following a 10-month battle with cancer. 

Bob was born Jan. 30, 1939, in rural Northfield, Jackson County, to parents Clarence and Grace (Hulett) Larson and was raised on the family farm. He graduated from Jackson high school in Hixton and then attended technical school in La Crosse. 

In August of 1961, Bob joined the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in August of 1966. 

Bob married Dorothy M. Steig Nov. 24, 1962, in Pigeon Falls. They had one son, Jeff Larson, who passed away in October of 1996. 

He was employed by American Motors, White Welding, Christ Iron Works, McKinney Steel and Daimler Chrysler, all in the Kenosha area, retiring in January of 1999.  Following his retirement, he returned to the family farm in Northfield. 

Bob was a member of Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church and was active on the property committee assisting the custodian on special projects.  He also belonged to UAW Local 72 and he was a true union man.  He was a member of the Northfield American Legion Post 541. 

Bob enjoyed many things in life. He spent many hours watching the Packers and high school basketball and riding his ATV.  He and Dorothy enjoyed traveling and visited Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and Hawaii and numerous places in the continental United States.  He also enjoyed woodworking and making metal sculptures and he liked to spend time fixing things for family and friends. 

He was a quiet man with a big heart and a good sense of humor and loved kidding around with everyone, especially his nieces and nephews. 

Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sister, Lois Larson of Minneapolis; sisters-in-law, Mary Olson of Keystone Heights, FL, Joanne Steig of Whitehall and Judy Steig of Kenosha; brothers-in-law, Frederick Steig of New Lisbon, David (Betty) Steig, William (Karen) Steig, all of Pigeon Falls, and Harold (Sandy) Steig of Osseo; and dear family friend, Mike Schultz.  

Other survivors include nephews: David Larson, Brian (Tammy) Steig, Wayne (friend Linda) Steig, Tommy (Sue) Steig, Marc (Dawn) Steig, Kevin (Cheri) Steig, Richard (Sue) Steig and nieces Linda (Stephen) Thomas, Carrie (Richard) Hubbell, Debbie (Gordie) Twerberg, Donna (Dan) Skaar, Laurie (Bob) Olson, Kathy (Dean) Strasburg, Cyndy (Les) Archibald, Sharon (Nick) Molinaro, Audrey Steig, Anna (Mark) Hudson, Wendy (Ken) Holmes, Karla (Randy) Krehbiel, Sue (Tom) Pacetti, Diane (Javier) LaLuz, Rhonda (Dan) Heyden, Susan (Douglas) Sullivan, Sara (Dan) Gradwohl, Leah Steig and Christy Steig, plus many great-nieces and nephews, cousins; and many good friends. 

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jeff; his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Alden and Beverly Larson; brothers-in-law, Leland Olson, Rodney and Kenneth Steig; and Sister-in-law, Shirley Steig. 

Funeral services for Robert E. “Bob” Larson will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church, rural Hixton, with Pastor David A. Christianson officiating. Burial and military rites will take place in the church cemetery. 

Friends may call Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton and also one hour prior to services at the church.
