Marian K. Wike, 100, of Melrose passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls.

Marian was born May 12, 1909, in Sparta to Erdman and Blanche (DeWitt) Kowitz.  She graduated from Sparta High School and Stevens Point College, where she majored in home economics.

After graduation, Marian taught home economics in Melrose and Adams-Friendship until her marriage to Harold Wike June 8, 1935.  He preceded her in death Aug. 23, 1963.  Marian went back to teaching and taught at Portage and Sparta Junior High until her retirement in 1973. She loved traveling and was fortunate to make trips to Europe and Asia.  She was an accomplished knitter and seamstress and shared the fruits of her talents with her family and friends.

Marian is survived by her daughter, Mary (Gene) Bue of Melrose; granddaughters, Kathleen Hessian of Edgerton and Jane (Jim) Helgestad of Otsego, MN; and her great-grandsons, Jedd and Max Helgestad and Nick and Sam Hessian.

Memorial services will be Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the Melrose United Methodist Church with Reverend Lon Jury officiating.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta, on Friday at 2 p.m.

Friends may call at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of Pine View Care Center and Pine View Terrace for the wonderful care given Marian the last three years.

Zwickey Funeral Home, Melrose Chapel assisted the family.
