Lien, Arnold N. (15 December 1923 – 8 October 2009)

 

Arnold N. “Arnie” Lien, 85, of Taylor died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at his home under the care of the Black River Memorial Hospice.

 

Arnie was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Curran Valley, Jackson County, to parents Andrew and Nettie (Olstad) Lien.

 

He married Evelyn Waller June 15, 1950, in Taylor.  He was employed at the Gilbertson Feed Mill for 20 years and the Jackson Highway Department for 15 years.  He also worked at the Taylor Creamery and built silos for the Madison Silo Company.

 

Arnie was always very active in Church and community activities.  He was a member of the church council of the Taylor Lutheran Church.  He was a life member of the Taylor Lions Club.  He served on the Taylor Village Board for many years, earning the light-hearted title of “south-side mayor.”  He also, spent 30 years as a Taylor volunteer fireman.

 

Arnie enjoyed supporting the Blair-Taylor School District sports teams and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play. He also enjoyed spending time going trout fishing and deer hunting.

 

Arnie possessed a very keen sense of humor and a kind and helpful spirit that will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

 

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; two sons, Allan (Terri) Lien of Blair and Keith (Pam) Lien of Taylor; one daughter, Debra Herried of Waterloo; one sister, Mae Johnson of Hixton; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Harry) Sweet, Sadie (Tony) Gelder, Andrew (Nicole) Lien, Jesse (Jessica) Lien, Toni (Hugo) Rodriguez, Trent Lien, Jason (Carla) Herried and Jill Herried; 12 great-grandchildren; besides many other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services for Arnold N. “Arnie” Lien were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Our Savior’s Lutheran church, Hixton, with Reverend John Kaplinski officiating.  Burial took place in Woodlawn Cemetery, rural Taylor.  Friends called Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, and also one hour prior to services at the church.

 

Casketbearers were: Brian Beaman, Gary Dolsey, Richard Hanson, Kenny Hjornevik, Arlyn Steien and Duane Steien.  Honorary bearers were: Clark Hulett, Allan Olson, LeRoy Olstad, Emil Schultz, George Simonson, Roger Stevens, Dick Waldera and Lyle West.

 

The Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, assisted the family.
