Stenulson, Kenneth R. (17 September 1919 – 11 December 2008) With Flag

Kenneth R. Stenulson, 89, of Black River Falls died at his home in the Town of Adams Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008.

Ken was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Black River Falls to Samuel and Julia (Kalstad) Stenulson. He was raised in the Town of Albion, Jackson County.

During World War II, he participated in the pacific Theater while serving in the 32nd Division of the Army.

He married Lucille K. Gonia Aug. 18, 1945, in Blair. The couple lived in Milwaukee for one year and then moved to Black River Falls, where they resided for the remainder of their married lives. Lucille preceded Ken in death in 2001.

While living in Milwaukee, he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and graduated from the refrigeration technician program. When Ken was over 80 years old, he received his GED in a special recognition from Black River Falls High School.

Ken worked in the maintenance department at Camp McCoy. He worked for the Jackson County Highway Department and at the Federation Cooperative. He began working as a TV and appliance repairman at Jackson Electric, and later he became an energy consultant. He retired from Jackson Electric.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He loved to play cards. He also enjoyed being outdoors, cutting and chopping wood.

Surviving are two sons, Irwin Stenulson, Alma, and Bruce (Mary) Stenulson, Fairplay, CO, and a daughter Kay (Tom) Seliskar, Yuma, AZ; a brother, Sanford Stenulson, Black River Falls; a sister, Ruth Soper, La Crosse; four grandchildren, Jamie, Christopher, Marc and Lisa; and three great-grandchildren, Kiya, Brianna, Morgan and Franki Jade. (Looks like four great-grandchildren are named.)

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Sanford, Lawrence, Mahlon, Irwin and Truman; and a sister Esther.

Memorial funeral services for Kenneth R. Stenulson were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at the Squaw Creek Lutheran Church, CTH P rural Black River Falls. Pastor Calvin Thoreson officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends called at Torgerson’s Funeral Home (715-284-4321), Black River Falls Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church Tuesday from noon until the time of services.

The family prefers memorials be given to the Squaw Creek Lutheran Church.
