Duerkop, Lyle D. (22 December 1914 – 24 February 2009)

Lyle D. Duerkop, 94, of Osseo and Alma Center passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Lyle was born Dec. 22, 1914, in the Town of Hixton, to parents William H. and Grace (Dell) Duerkop. He graduated from Hixton High School. He married Geraldine Skare Dec. 24, 1933, in Black River Falls, and they farmed in the South Alma area of Jackson County until 1991 when they moved to Osseo. Geraldine, his wife of 73 years, preceded him in death June 16, 2007.

In addition to farming, Lyle was employed as a patrolman for the Jackson County Highway Department for over 40 years, retiring in 1981.

Lyle served on the church council of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for several years. His favorite pastimes were deer hunting, trout fishing and gardening.

Lyle is survived by one son, Howard (Mary) Duerkop; two grandchildren, Cindy (special friend Mike Wetterau) Pradorelli of Stevens Point and Harold (Diane) Duerkop of Racine; five great-grandchildren, Chris Murphy of South Milwaukee, Angie (Rick) Sadowski, Sarah (Jessie) Lewis and Becky (Curt) Romanowski, all of Racine, and Jenny (Bobby) Murphy of Stevens Point; four great-great- grandchildren, Tyler Lewis, JoJo and Everett Murphy and Annika Romanowski; besides other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Geraldine, Lyle was preceded in death by his four-year-old son, Harold, and his brother, Boyd.

Funeral services for Lyle D. Duerkop were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Hixton, with Reverend John Kaplinski officiating. Burial took place in Trinity Rest Cemetery, Hixton. Friends called at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.

Casketbearers were Jessie Lewis, Bobby Murphy, Chris Murphy, Dennis Nerby, Curt Romanowski and Mike Wetterau. Daniel Simonson served as an honorary bearer.
