LOCAL HAPPENINGS.

A. B. Barney, editor of the Spencer Tribune, called at this office on Tuesday.  

Mr. Johnson, of Black River Falls paid a short visit to his nephew, L. A. Arnold, this week.

Preaching--Rev. O. A. Britton will preach at Manneville on Sunday morning, March 12th, and at Marshfield the same evening.

Mr. Frank Cady of the town of Richfield, in company with Miss Ewell and Miss Winter, of Nasonville were welcome callers at the Times office Tuesday.

G. Campbell, superintendent of the north division of the W. C. R. R., was in Marshfield a few hours on Tuesday, in company with Mr. C. R. Hanchatt, assistant supt. of the north division, formerly train dispatcher of this road.

A. Goetschius has been making some repairs on his store, increased the length to fifty feet and raised the ceiling to the height of twelve feet.

The latest styles of millinery goods at Mrs. Marvin Smith's Millinery room next door to the post office.

SCHOOL REPORTS of the Primary Department for the month ending March 3, 1882. Number enrolled, 90, average daily attendance, 60.

Messrs. Joseph Kohl and Mike Merkel wish to state to the citizens of Marshfield that they will open out a meat market in the building now occupied by Joseph Kohl, on or about April 1st.

A dispatch from Medford, dated March 6th, to 'the Republican and News, says: C. D. Rogers, United States, detective and D. W. Whipple of Eau Claire county have succeeded in capturing John Morgan, alias John Murphy, who murdered A. C. Blashfield of Eau Claire, on the 24th of January last.

Mr. N. L. Kaudy, artist of Colby, will visit Marshfield in a few days, with samples of oil paintings. Those we saw in his studio would do credit to the profession of a high degree. He also displays remarkable skill as a taxidermist. We saw some of his work in this line which we consider good. with samples of oil paintings. Sam. Sanford, of Spencer, came down in a hurry the other day. A young man at that place received word that his brother was dying, and Sam. took him on board his velocipede, and brought him here in less than thirty minutes. The object was for the young man to get here ahead of the train in time to get a check cashed at the bank, which he did.

PERSONALS

Mr. C. K. Richardson, of Spencer, was in town last week.

Mr. Z. B. Fitzgerald came in town this week, and will remain a few days.

Mr. Geo. T. Brown, with Boals Terry & Co., wholesale dealers in boots and shoes, took orders in Marshfield, Friday of last week.

Miss Carrie Lamair, for some time with Mrs. Marvin Smith, returned from Menasha Saturday of last week, after an absence of two months.

Miss Ella Sherman, who has spent most of the winter at this place with her mother, left on Monday for Milwaukee. She will return in a few days to St. Point.

Mr. J. P. Buck, agent for the Fox River, company, and by the way, one of Appleton's most enterprising business men, was a welcome visitor at this place last week, and did not fail to call at the Times office.

L. C. Herr, quill shover on the Wochenblatt, took a run up as far as Medford on Saturday last. He thinks Marshfield gets away with any town on the line for business.

Mr. John M. Foss, representing Plum and Son's nursery of Milton, this state, has been in town for several days taking orders.

Mr. J. W. Parker, of Sioux Falls, Dakota, was at Marshfield this week, purchasing lumber for his yard at that place. Mr. Parker is quite a social gentleman.

Miss Delia Gilson, who has been stopping with her brother, Hon. L. F. Gilson, of Milwaukee, is paying her sister a visit at Colby, Mrs. C. R. Taylor.

Geo. Schnid, the enterprising cigar manufacturer of Neenah, interviewed some of our dealers in that noxious weed. George is an A No. 1 fellow, and is sure to meet with success.

Frank Garrison, of the firm of Garrison and Whittlesey, of Centralia passed down the line Wednesday from a tri to Thorp where he is interested with his brother, L. O. Garrison.

Mr. B. F. Buck, of this place, who has been at Duluth with Mr. Saunders this winter came down on Wednesday.
