Friends and family members remember Rick Zorman for his bright smile and outgoing personality.

Zorman, 52, a Wood County Parks Department employee for more than 22 years, died Wed. while doing work at the Lake Dexter dam south of Pittsville.

As officials investigate the death, those who knew Zorman are trying to cope with the loss of a husband, father, friend, co-worker and community member.

Connie Zorman, 48, met her husband right out of high school at a Laundromat.

"I grew up in Auburndale, and he was in Marshfield," she said. "We hit it off right from the start."

They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in October and have three grown children, Zeb, Zachary and Jessica, who all live in Marshfield.

Connie will miss his wisdom. When her husband didn't know something, he'd find the answer.

"He had his library card in his wallet," she said.

Zorman's energy and sense of adventure was not lost on Lance Pliml, Wood County Board chairman.

"He was one of those people who lived every day to the fullest," Pliml said.

Zorman co-owned the Martini Lounge in Marshfield. But his primary job was with the Parks Department at Dexter Park.

"I know people in the Parks Department are very broken up," Pliml said. "I think there will be people who come up to camp or use the beaches, who will certainly miss seeing him.

"He was a fixture who always had a smile on his face."

Zorman won't be forgotten, said Ed Reed, human reSources director for the county.

His death created a hole in the department, and that hole will be remembered for years to come," he said.
