Esser, Alice M. (18 Feb. 1922 - 7 Apr. 2009)

Alice M. Budtke Esser, 87, of Marshfield died Tues., April 7, 2009, at Marshfield Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sat. at St. John's Catholic Church, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI) is assisting the family.

Alice M. Buttke Esser, 87, Marshfield, died Tues., April 7, 2009, at Marshfield Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sat. April 11, 2009, at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Charles Stoetzel will officiate and Suzanne Golden will be the organist for St. John's Church Funeral Choir.

Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Mon. in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sat. at St. John's Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI) is assisting the family.

Alice was born on Feb. 18, 1922, in Marshfield to Wolfgang and Mary (Kaholka) Biechler. She married Edwin H. Buttke on June 3, 1946, at St. John's Catholic Church. He died on May 4, 1986. She then married Harold A. Esser on June 12, 1987, and he died on Feb. 19, 2007.

Alice had been employed at Wood County Department of Social Services until her retirement. She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 54 Auxiliary. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, going to Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nev., and spending time with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, a son, and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her daughter is Mary (Joel) Binder of Marshfield and their children, Adam (Erin) Binder and Luke Binder. Her son is Paul (Debra) Buttke of Chili and their children, Jamie (Gene) Empey, Joey Buttke, Alexandra Buttke and Liz Buttke. She is also survived by four stepchildren, Nancy (Andy) Arena, Diane Weber, Elaine (Bob) Becker, and Mike (Ruta) Esser; and 11 stepgrandchildren and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husbands; and five brothers, Joseph, Leonard, Ted, Carl and John Biechler.

The family will designate a memorial in her name at a later date.
