Sperlein, M. Emmerika, Sister (24 Nov. 1911 - 19 Dec. 1995)

OSHKOSH - Sister M. Emmerika Sperlein, age 84, of Franciscan Court, Oshkosh, died Dec. 19, 1995. She was born on Nov. 24, 1911, in Zentbechhofen, Bavaria, the daughter of Konrad and Elizabeth Lehh Sperlein, Sr. Emmerika entered the religious community on May 9, 1935, in Abenberg, Germany. She came to the United States on Oct. 4, 1937, and took her religious vows on Aug. 12, 1938, in Milwaukee.

Sr. Emmerika was a registered nurse, specializing in the OB Department. Her last assignment was at Villa Maria in Barbados for 22 years before her retirement. She had previously been assigned to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Survivors include a brother, Leonard Sperlein, and a sister, Dorothea Kotzer, both of Germany.

Homecoming for Sr. Emmerika was at 4 p.m. Wed. at the Franciscan Court. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thur. with Rev. Michael Koch officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Poklasny Funeral Home, Oshkosh, is in charge of arrangements.
