AUBURNDALE -- Edith C. Bernitt, 87, of Auburndale, died on Thur., Oct. 30, 2008, at Bethel Center, Arpin.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tues., Nov. 4, 2008, at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI), Marshfield, where the visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mon. and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tues..

Edith C. Bernitt, 87, Auburndale, died Thur., Oct. 30, 2008, at Bethel Center, Arpin. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tues., Nov. 4, 2008, at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI), Marshfield, where the visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mon. and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tues.. Burial will take place in the town of Day Cemetery and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Bernitt was born June 22, 1921, in the town of Buena Vista, Portage County, to John and Amber (Clark) Fletcher. She graduated from Wisconsin State Teachers College in Stevens Point. She then taught school at Willies Elementary School in the town of Day and Phillips Elementary School in the town of Green Valley. She and Roland E. Bernitt were united in marriage on June 22, 1944, in Plover. He died July 13, 1982.

Edith had served as treasurer for the town of Green Valley and was a former member of Community Bible Church, Stratford, and its Ladies Aid. She also had been involved in a neighborhood homemakers club. She had been employed at the Buck-A-Neer Supper Club for 17 years. She enjoyed having a pen pal from Australia for many years.

She is survived by a daughter and three sons, Amy (Vaughn) Smith of Owen, Rodney (Renee) Bernitt, Douglas (Peggy) Bernitt and Gary Bernitt, all of Auburndale. She also is survived by nine grandchildren, Sherry (Dennis) Rose, Laura (Dave) Rautmann, Robert (Christe) Smith, Carrie, Jessie, Dana, Cody, Allison and Joshua (Mandi) Bernitt; and nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters, Bernice Fletcher of Stevens Point and Donna Rae of Green Bay.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Dennis Bernitt; two brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be designated in her name to Ministry Hospice Care or to Bethel Center.
