Foltz, Ben (28 Sept. 1928 - 29 Oct. 2008)

APPLETON -- Ben Foltz, 80, of Appleton, died Wed., Oct. 29, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Ben was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Marshfield, to the late Benjamin A. and Gertrude (Skibbe) Foltz. Ben graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in June of 1946 attended broadcasting schools in Chicago and Milwaukee. He served his country in Korea (1951 to 1952) with the 45th Infantry Division. After his discharge from the service, Ben attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and received his BS degree in Education. He came to Appleton in 1957 and taught at Jefferson Elementary School for 34 years, retiring in 1991. Ben attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison to earn his MS degree in Education Administration. For 12 years, Ben was actively involved in the Appleton Summer School programs as a teacher and administrator at McKinley Elementary School. He also taught at the Fox Valley Technical College and Lawrence University in their night school programs as a reading instructor.

He is survived by his wife, Burga (Zimmermann) Foltz; his two sons, Stephen, Wautoma, and Gregory, Appleton; his brother, Robert (Geraldine) Foltz, Marshfield; his sister, Margie (Chuck) Covi, Wisconsin Rapids; and his sister, Donna (Herb) Bluhm, Marshfield. Ben is further survived by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11 a.m. Sat. Nov. 1, 2008, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 East Lourdes Drive, Appleton, with the Rev. Don Zuleger officiating.

Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton, today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again directly at the church on Sat. from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton.
