Carter, Del (26 Dec. 1935 - 23 Oct. 2008)

NEKOOSA -- Del Carter, 72, died Thur., Oct. 23, 2008, at UW Madison Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born December 26, 1935, in Rockford, son of Jay and Ruby (Hessinger) Carter. He attended Forreston High School and proudly served in the Marines during the Korean War. Del was an owner/operator of his own trucking business for more than 30 years, until he retired this summer. He spent his time tinkering with his vintage car, wood working and flower gardening. Del enjoyed his annual fishing trip to Canada with the boys. His compassion and giving to those less fortunate is a shining example to others. His sense of humor and endless story telling will be missed.

He is survived by children, Theresa (Andy) Watson, Phoenix, Ariz.; Lori Carter, Rockford, Ill.; Tambra (Ron) Branton, Nacogdoches, Texas; Jay (Robin) Carter, Canton, Ga.; Audrey (Mitch) LeCleir, Rockford, Ill.; Diane McGuire; Noreen (David) Dixon, Machesney Park, Ill.; Bobby Carter; Ardara (Joshua) Yballa, Westminster, Co.; special daughter-in-law, Tonya Gallob, Crawford, Co.; brothers, Robert (Glenda) Carter, Machesney Park, Ill.; Harlan (Sandy) Carter, Pittsville; sisters, Dorothy Brockman, Belvidere, Ill.; Delores (Paul) Glover, Belvidere, Ill.; Donna (Frank) Wahlberg, Charlotte, N.C.; 23 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 grand-dogs and his little trucking buddy, his dog "Bugs."

Predeceased by his wife Marvyl, the love of his life and trucking partner, brother Bill Carter and brother-in-law, Virgil Brockman.

A memorial is scheduled for Nov. 8, 2008, at the family home in Nekoosa.
