Nelson, Hermina Margaret (Stiel) (October 22, 1912 - March 31, 2011)

Hermina Margaret Nelson, 98, Brodhead, died on Thursday, March 31 at Woods Crossing Nursing Home in Brodhead.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, April 5 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating.

Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake. Pallbearers were Will Hare, Steven Moon, David Campi, Donnie Nelson, Danny Brandner, David Gauthier, Daryl Andrews and Christopher Winchell.


The former Hermina Stiel was born on October 22, 1912 in Rib Lake to the late Anton and Amelia (Gams) Stiel.


On November 17, 1934 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Rib Lake, she married Evald Nelson, who preceded her in death on September 30, 1972.

They moved to Mendota, Ill., in 1950 and she worked at Wayside Press as a binder for 21 years, then at the Lutheran Home in Mendota, and later at Merritts Funeral Home as a receptionist. She moved to Rib Lake in 1980 where she lived until 1997 when she moved to Brodhead.


She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Brodhead Garden Club, past member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Christian Mothers Group, and was an active member of the church choir for 25 years, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Rib Lake and Mendota and was active in doing charity work. She enjoyed sewing, baking, reading, gardening, homemaking and spending time with her family.


Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Wilbert) Hare of Lilburn, Ga., and Barbara (Robert) Moon of Brodhead; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Nelson of Chelsea; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann (Arthur) Brietzke; a son, Charles; four brothers, Wesley, Leo, Mathias and Joseph; and five sisters, Laura Talbot, Anna Payne, Chris Melz, Clara Fagg and Catherine Stiel.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
