Jochimsen, Wayne "Shorty" A. (October 20, 1925 - March 22, 2011)


Wayne "Shorty" A. Jochimsen, 85, Medford, died on Tuesday, March 22 at his home, surrounded by his family and under hospice care.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 25 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with full military honors conducted by the Stetsonville American Legion Post No. 519, and Father Gerard Willger officiating.


Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 24 from 4 to 7 p.m., and on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.


Wayne Jochimsen was born on October 20, 1925 in the Town of Little Black to the late Awald H. and Clara A. (White) Jochimsen. He attended Little Black Schools and was a 1943 graduate of Medford High School.


On June 13, 1953 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Medford, he married Marjorie A. Frahmann, who survives.

He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He worked for Midway in Medford as a lineman, for E.J. Crane Feed Mill in Medford and also during this time worked for Damm Brother's Sawmill and Schuster Construction, both in Medford. He then worked at Hurd in Medford until his retirement.


He was a member of Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post No. 519 and a horseshoe league.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, throwing horseshoes, playing cards, especially sheepshead and smear, and attending ball games.


In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Marguerite Jochimsen of Medford; a son, Michael of Medford; three brothers, Wyllis "Buster" (Florina) Jochimsen and Winston "Jake," both of Medford, and Willard "Hank" (Patricia) of Eau Claire; and two grandsons, Travis Jochimsen of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Cody Jochimsen of Medford.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Janet Jochimsen.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date.
