Niemi, Elaine Annabelle (Heglmeier) (August 10, 1928 - January 20, 2011)

Elaine Annabelle Niemi, 82, Town of Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Golden LivingCenter in Rib Lake.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Gary Utteck officiating. Interment was at Leavitt Creek Cemetery in the Town of Hill. Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.


The former Elaine Heglmeier was born on August 10, 1928 to the late Frank and Eveline (Krakenberger) Heglmeier. She attended Washington Grade School and was a 1946 graduate of Medford High School. For two years, she was employed at Eau Claire Sand and Gravel, then returned to Medford where she worked at the State Bank of Medford for six years.


On January 31, 1953 at Medford United Methodist Church, she married John "Rueben" Niemi, who preceded her in death on September 14, 1969. They made their home in the Town of Hill where they owned and operated a dairy farm. She also worked as a clerk and mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.


She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Prentice, Trinity LWML where she was past treasurer, and manager of the CLRC. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, traveling, canning, making rugs, baking, singing, and Wisconsin sports teams.


Survivors include two sons, Allan (Janice) of the Town of Hill and Dale (Germaine) of the Town of Ogema; two daughters, Joan (Randy) Brandner of Merrill and Barbara (Domingo) Ramirez of Union Grove; eight grandchildren, Tara Niemi, Brenda (Justin) Hraby, Travis (Sara) Niemi, Shannon Niemi, Derek Niemi, Jason Brandner, Matthew Brandner and Hailey Niemi; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton and Louis, and two sisters, Constance Heglmeier and Ardell (Paul) Butor.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
