Ziembo, Raymond Joseph (September 21, 1919 - January 16, 2009)

Raymond Joseph Ziembo, 89, Rib Lake, died Friday, Jan. 16 at his home, while under the care of Hope Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Jan. 19 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Pallbearers were Ryan Gilles, Jesse Glenzer, Phillip Thums, Ray Duerr, Gregory Ziembo, Jamie Ziembo and Travis Ziembo.

Raymond Ziembo was born September 21, 1919 in the Town of Greenwood to the late Tony and Valeria (Gubalum) Ziembo. He attended Rib River Graded School.

On June 14, 1944 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Rib Lake, he married Helen Marie Maslonka, who survives. He was employed as a truck driver for Rib Lake Dairy for 25 years and as a forklift truck driver for Marathon Cheese for 10 years. He also was a licensed cheese maker, owned and operated a dairy farm for 40 years and was a bus driver for the Rib Lake School District.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Wednesday Evening Men's Bowling League at Little Bohemia Bowling Alley in Rib Lake where he bowled for the Cattail Tap, and the dartball team at Lakeside Tavern, the National Hotel and Zondlo's Tavern. He enjoyed gardening and listening to polka music.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Joseph (Rhonda) and John (Joleen), both of Rib Lake, and Robert and Michael (Linda), both of Medford; six daughters, MaryEllen (Mike) Thums, Barbara (Richard) Berger and Judy Ziembo, all of Rib Lake, Patricia (Jerry) Strebig and Joann (Todd) Gilles, both of Medford and Susan (Phillip) Marthaler of Athens; a brother, Bill (Bernice) of Medford; a sister, Marcella Yusta of Sun Valley, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Emma Ziembo of Rib Lake; a brother-in-law, Edward Hebda of Hemet, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sandy Ziembo; a grandson, Paul Thums; three brothers, George (Katie), Phillip and Tony (Alice); two sisters, Christina (Conrad) Bormann and Frances Hebda; a stepsister, Martha (Wally) Blomquist; and two stepbrothers, Stanley (Martha) Ujke and Leo (Marge) Ujke.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
