Dassow, Mary T. (Stauner) (September 22, 1932 - February 15, 2009)

Mary T. Dassow, 76, Medford, died Sunday, Feb. 15 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where she had been a patient the past month.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Pallbearers will be Justin and Trevor Niemyjski, Jim Roberts, Tim Geszvain and Joe and Jim Gilles.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 19 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and at the funeral home on Friday from 9 to 10:45 a.m.

The former Mary Stauner was born September 22, 1932 in Medford to the late Joseph and Susan (Kellner) Stauner Sr. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Medford.

On October 25, 1952 in Medford, she married Ervin "Sam" W. Dassow, who preceded her in death on August 6, 2001. In 1976 they purchased the Why-Go-By Bar and Restaurant in Goodrich and operated it until 1979. They then moved to Marshfield where she was a housewife, and in 1982 they moved back to Medford where they owned and operated Sam and Mary's Bar east of Medford until her retirement.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandy (John) Kwaitkowski of Waterford and Joan (John) Dubey of New Berlin; two sons, John (Amy) and Larry (Ellie), both of Medford; brothers and sisters, Minnie Reynolds of Baraga, Mich., Alvin (Lillian) and Aggie (Ray) Carstensen, both of Medford, Cathy Dassow of Whittlesey and Theresa Koutredokas of Winthrop, Maine; a brother-in-law, Emmanuel "Manny" Gilles of Medford; special friend, Amy Dassow; four grandchildren, Jody (Justin) Niemyjski and Jim Roberts, both of Franksville, Kim (Tim) Geszvain of Caledonia and Tori Dassow of Medford; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy; seven brothers, Joseph Jr., John, Lawrence, Albert and Herbert, and Leo and Bernard in infancy; and two sisters, Florence Broeske and Christine Gilles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her family to be designated at a later date.
