---Halida, Verna Elizabeth (10 October 1924 - 9 February 2009)

Verna E. Halida, age 84, of Marshfield, formerly of Lublin, died on Monday, February 9, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Marshfield.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, at St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin. Fr. Marian Talaga officiated, and burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation was held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Verna Elizabeth Glende was born on October 10, 1924, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Herbert Carl and Wilhelmine “Minnie” (Martin) Glende. She spent much of her youth in Canada and Minnesota before her family moved to Wisconsin, where they lived in the Dorchester, Colby and Medford areas.

Verna was united in marriage to Edward Halida on January 20, 1945, at St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin. They farmed in Withee until 1963, and then moved to Lublin. They later divorced. Verna worked in Thorp, Owen, Abbotsford, and Milwaukee, retiring from Milwaukee Executive in 1986, and returning to Lublin. She reunited with Edward, and in 2003, they moved to Marshfield, WI to be closer to their daughter, Joyce. Verna was a very hard worker who endured many of life’s trials and tribulations. Even so, she remained a generous person who was able to enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures such as dancing and playing cards, especially the card game 31.

Verna is survived by her ex-husband, Edward, of Marshfield; two daughters: Nancy (William) Maas of Phoenix, AZ, and Joyce Fetting of Marshfield; four sons: John (Edith) of Colby, Walter (Victoria) of Chippewa Falls, Terry (Cheryl) of Chippewa Falls, and Todd (Kristine) of Eau Claire; daughter-in-law, Jean Halida of Plymouth, WI; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Roy in 1983 and Robert in 1999; one granddaughter, Tammy Halida, in 1967; three sisters: Isabel Struensee, Alvina Barbara O’Connor, and Linda Seidelmann; and two brothers: James Glende and Donald Glende.
