Denny, James Sr., (January 14, 1942 - October 9, 2010)

James Denny Sr., 68, Sussex, died at his home on Saturday, Oct 9.

He was born on his grandparents' farm in Catawba on January 14, 1942, the son of Edith and Richard Denny.

He was a 1960 graduate of Phillips High School, and then attended Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee for three years. He served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany from 1965 to 1966.

He was married to Marjean Klimeck in Waukegan, Ill., on January 24, 1974.

After returning from his military service, he took over the family farm. He served as Town of Catawba clerk and was also a bar owner. In 1973 he moved to Milwaukee where he worked in retail management for many years. While his children grew up, he spent time with his boys in Boy Scouts, holding many different positions, and coached his girls in softball.


He was a member of St. Peter Immanuel Lutheran Church and School and served as president of the PTL. He also held a position on the school board and was a member of the Southern Price County VFW Post No. 8491. In later years he and his wife worked as coast to coast truck drivers where they enjoyed traveling the country and seeing many family and friends throughout the various states. He retired in 2008.


He is survived by his wife, Marjean; his mother, Edith Denny; his father-in-law, John Klimeck; eight children, Debra (Jeffery) Brook, Michael Denny, Kenneth Denny, Michael (Debra) Moore, Patricia (Greg) Gibson, Cheryl (Dan Beaver) Kucharski, James (Shelly) Denny Jr. and Diane Olroyd; 14 grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer Stevens) Brook, Tyler (Susie Stephenson) Turk, Melissa Brook, Samantha Kucharski, Joshua Kucharski, Christian Denny, Sidney Moore, Madison Denny, Vincent Gordin, Kelsey Moore, Katelyn Denny, Charlie Moore, Brady Denny and Alyssa Olroyd; six brothers and sisters, Lyle (Pat) Denny, Susie (Ross) Honsa, JoAnn (Jim) Zimpher, Judy (Jim) Pekol, Randy (Diane) Denny and Jeff (Laurie) Denny; one brother-in-law, Jim Klimeck; and one sister-in-law, Penny (Kyle) Mannel.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Denny; his mother-in-law, Ethel Klimeck; and one brother-in-law, John Klimeck Jr. He was a favorite "Uncle" to many, he especially enjoyed his grandchildren, playing cards and camping. He had his door open to everyone.


Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 16 at St. John Lutheran Church in Phillips, with Pastor Thomas Reiff officiating. Military honors were conducted by the Southern Price County VFW Post No. 8491 and the State of Wisconsin Military Honors Team. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips. Pallbearers at the funeral services were Brad DesArmo, Kyle Mannel II, Erik Mannel, Bill Honsa, Ryan Olson and Josh Gordon.


The Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips assisted the family with arrangements.
