Grunwald, Howard "Howie" W. (12 MAY 1924 - 5 JAN 2013)

Howard "Howie" W. Grunwald, 88, Medford, died on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Country Gardens Assisted Living in Medford. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating, and military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team.

Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in the Town of Little Black. Active pallbearers are Carisa Lueck, Cadie Smith, and Mike, Justin, Trenton, Adam and Patrick Grunwald. Honorary pallbearers are Kristine Pillsbury, Carolyn Semen, Casey Smith and Tracy Roeber.

Visitation will be held at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford on Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer/rosary service at 4 p.m., and on Friday from to 11:15 a.m.

Milwaukee elementary schools; graduate of Boy’s Tech High School, Milwaukee

MARRIAGE INFORMATION:
1st: Nov. 27, 1948 at Medford to Celine E. Heier. She preceded him in death Jan. 7, 1980
2nd: Jan. 31, 1981 at Medford to Carol Raasch-Riemer. She preceded him in death May 25, 2009

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE:
After his education he worked at Evinrude Motors in Milwaukee. Then he entered the US Army, veteran of WW II having served from 1943-45. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star & Purple Heart while serving. After the service he returned to Milwaukee. Moved to the Town of Little Black where he owned & operated the Little Black Store & Bar, later known as the Little Black Liquor Store & Discount Center from 1950-1986. He worked as a rural mail carrier for a period of time until his retirement in 1987. He served on the Little Black School Board, treasurer of the Town of Little Black, and was an emergency fire warden for the DNR. He enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, fishing & camping.

MEMBER OF:
Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford where he was active: taught religious education for several years, marriage preparation classes & served as Eucharistic minister.

Medford Council of the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree knight & recipient of the Dr. C.W. Henney Medallion Award.

Klossner-Dietzler VFW Club, Medford.
