Olson, Russell (22 NOV 1919 - 14 FEB 2013)

Russell Olson, 93, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Milestone Senior Living in Hillsboro.

He was born Nov. 22, 1919, to Lewis and Laura (Kegley) Olson at Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.). Russell graduated from the Hillsboro High School.

Russell was united in marriage to Elaine Sletten on April 13, 1946, in Cashton. They owned a farm on Fox Ridge, rural Hillsboro, where they lived most of their lives. Elaine preceded him in death on May 4, 2011.

Russell worked at Badger Ordinance Ammunition Plant for many years; he also worked for Aunt Nellies Canning Co. and drove truck for Hillsboro Farmers Co-op. He was a member of Cesky Den (they presided as the Royal Couple one year during their annual festival), and a member of the Lions club. Russell and Elaine enjoyed polka dancing and camping. He also liked going out west and hunting.

Survivors include his children, Maureen (Dan) Kouba of Hillsboro, David (Leatha) Olson of La Valle, Paul Olson( friend, Joyce) of Hillsboro, Doug (Beth) Olson of Kaukauna and Allan (Peggy) Olson of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Elaine, he was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter, Olivia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, with the Rev. Conrad Prell officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hillsboro. Friends many call fro 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Picha Funeral home in Hillsboro, and starting at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
