Richard E. “Dick” Abel, 74, Willard, died on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at the House of the Dove, Marshfield. No services will be held.

Richard Edwin Abel was born on Sept. 18, 1938, in Greenwood, the son of Edward and Fern (nee Vine) Abel. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Greenwood area, graduating from Greenwood High School. Dick worked at Stewart’s Redville Dairy and joined the U.S, Army Reserve. After graduating from high school he worked at the Weber-Biskey Lumberyard, in Greenwood, and later at Laabs Cheese Factory in Willard. He married Donna Auman on April 15, 1961, in Neillsille. They later divorced. On Oct. 1, 1961, Dick was called to active duty and served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis, until his honorable discharge on Aug. 11, 1962. He returned to Greenwood, where he and Donna purchased her parents farm four miles west of Greenwood. They farmed until 1972, at which time they sold the farm, and Dick went to work as a carpenter, for Stanley Voloveck’s Cabinet Shop. After Stanley retired, dick worked at B&K Construction in Marshfield, and finally transferred to Figi’s Neillsville plant in 2004. He resided in Willard until the time of his death. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed carpentry work and welding.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Lori) Abel, Willard, and their four daughters, Kiana, Kia, Karli and Kennedy Abel, all of Willard; one sister, Joanne Koivisto, Bloomer; one brother-in-law, Tim Martens, Greenfield; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Shirley Christophersen and Laverne Martens.
