Bert, Thomas#2(17 JUN 1893– 10 OCT 1963)

Thomas Berg, 70, of Loyal, died at noon, October 10 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Romaine Rossow.  Mr. Berg had been in ill health for the past several months.

Mr. Berg was born June 17, 1893 at Appleton, and as a young man moved to South Dakota with his parents, where he lived until his marriage to Lillian Brecke, August 3, 1916.  In 1921 they moved to Wisconsin and operated a farm until 1930, when they moved to Loyal.  He was employed by the Clark County Highway Department until his retirement in 1958.  He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge #335 at Loyal, and joint membership of the O.E.S. of Loyal and Medford.

His first wife, Lillian preceded him in death on May 32, 1952.  His second marriage to Pearl Rietz took place at Medford on October 1, 1954.  She passed away on May 18, 1961.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Romain (Mavis) Rossow, Loyal; and Mrs. Robert (Marliss) Bloom, Milwaukee; two step daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Templeton, Medford; Mrs. Harley (Marcella) Alton, Oak Lawn, Illinois; a sister, Mrs. Warner Walker, Elkton, South Dakota; three brothers, Oscar, Lemmon, South Dakota; Earl, Huron South Dakota; and Carson, DeSmet, South Dakota; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The active pallbearers were all nephews, Harvey Schaefer, Tom Olson, Clarence Brecke, Myron Brecke and Vernon Brecke.

Hymns were sung by Miss Bonnie Kraut, “Safe in The Arms of Jesus: and “In the Garden”.  She was accompanied by Mrs. Norman Nelson.

Burial took place in the Loyal Cemetery.  Reverend Roger Tellock officiated. Masonic rites were held at 9 p.m. Saturday, at the Myre Funeral Home.
