Neuman, Duane (17 Feb 1932-02 Jan 2013)

Duane W. Neuman, 80, Colby, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in the emergency room at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Jan, 7, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spencer. Rev. Rebekah Tarras and Rev. Kenneth A. Dix officiated. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery iin Riplinger with full military rites. His grandsons served as both active pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Duane Neuman was born on Feb. 11, 1932, in the town of Unity, Clark County, the son of Lawrence and Gertrude (nee Roohr) Neuman. He attended Sunshine School and Unity High School. After high school he farmed, drove semi-truck and worked at Foremost Dairy in Owen. He entered the United States Marine Corp on March 20, 1952, and served his country proudly during the Korean Era. Following his honorable, he returned to the area and married Dorothy Kanneberg-Olson on May 14, 1955, in Abbotsford. She survives. Duane owned and operated a dairy farm from 1955-69. He later started Duane’s Tech Supply, which he owned and operated from 1969 to the present. His associations included being a longtime and dedicated member of the American Legion Post #358 of Unity, where he held the position of post Commander almost exclusively from 1973 to the present time. He also held the position of Wisconsin State Commander of the American Legion from 1983-84. He belonged to the VFW Post #2227 of Colby and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riplinger. His hobbies were deer hunting, fishing and sharing his time and talents with Badger Boys State, teaching young men about government and the Constitution of the United States.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Colby; five children, Wayne (Karen) Neuman, Colby, Larry (Deborah) Neuman, Tuscan, Ariz., Sandra (Randy) Kocian, Colby, Suzanne (Larry) Makeeff, Carthage, Mo., and Lilli-Marlene (Thomas) Weis, Unity; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Glen (Vicki) Neuman, Richland Center; two sisters, LaVonne (Gary) Levenhagen, Rock Island, Tenn., and Joel (Daniel) Elmhorst, Neillsville; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and comrades and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, in infancy; one grandson, Shayne Neuman; and one great-granddaughter, Heather Ensign, at birth.
