Furlong, Kittie (19 AUG 1868 - 21 MAR 1897)

Miss Kittie Furlong died at her father's home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County), Sunday afternoon, March 21st, 1897, of consumption.

Miss Furlong was born in this city on the 19th of August 1868, and her home has been among us during all of her lifetime. She attended the public schools here for several years, completing the course in 1886. Since that time she has been engaged in teaching in the public schools of the county, the last five years of her teaching being in the 3rd and 4th grades of the high school of this city. At the close of the last school year she was obliged to resign her position in the shcools on account of the conduction of her health. For the last few months and especially for several weeks past, it has been generally known among her acquaintances that she was in that stage of consumption which is beyond medical aid, and yet when it was announced last Sunday afternoon that Kittie was dead, the sorrow that the sad intelligence brought to the hearts of her many friends was none the less deeply felt. Deceased was a young lady of intelligence, education and refinement, with a bright and happy disposition and having the faculty of bringing joy and sunshine to the hearts of those with whom she came in contact. She will be sadly missed in her home, in the school, in the social circle and in the community in general, and will long be remembered as a loveable character, who dwelt among us for a few years, lightened the burdens and added to the enjoyment of her associate and left the world better for having lived in it.

Her father, Edward Furlong, of this city, her brother, Francis D. Furlong, of Perkinstown, Wis. and her sister, Mrs. Walter Pennock, of Algood, Tenn., survive her.

Rev. G.N. Foster of this city officiated at the funeral services which took place at the Furlong residence Tuesday afternoon under the auspices of the Order of Eastern Star, of which organization deceased was a member.
