Ure, George (3 MAR 1829 - 23 MAR 1893)

George Ure Sr. died at his house in Lynn, March 23, 1893. Mr. Ure was born at Caitna Shote, Scotland, March 3, 1829. He was married in Scotland and came to this country in 1856, locating in Chicago. He removed to Clark County, Wis. in 1861, and took up the farm, where he has ever since resided. His wife died in 1886, and he has since lived with a daughter, Nettie, and son John. He leaves three children surviving, the son and daughter above and George. A. Ure.

Mr. Ure had been failing health for the last two or three years, and he dropped as the poet says "like ripe fruit into a mother's lap."

There are but few left of the old settlers who located at Maple Works and that vicinity. Among those who have passed away of the old neighbors are Ely Williams, Wm. Yorkston, Archibald Yorkston, John Yonkee, Bart Brooks, John Geary and Mr. Hoover. Of those who (I could not read the words here, but I think it says stile living) N. Marsh, George Keanesmith and Wm. Sternitzky.

Mr. Ure was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a man of undiminished patience and character, honest, generous and true. Politically he was always an ardent Republican. You always knew where to find him. His politics, like his religion, was a mater of conscience. He left hosts of friends and enemies, "there has passed from our midst a kind neighbor, and upright citizen, a just and true man."
