Ampe, Arthur J. (6 MAR 1908 - 14 SEP 1985)


Arthur J. Ampe, 77, of Clark County Health Care Center, Owen, and formerly of Neillsville and Greenwood, Clark County, died at 2 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, 1985 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1985 at the Gesche Funeral Home with Mark Gungor, Marshfield, officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Greenwood. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

He was born March 6, 1908, at Glenwood City, to Julius and Freida (Verbelle) Ampe and moved with his parents to a farm south of Greenwood. He received his education at Eaton Center School and in Greenwood schools.

He farmed in the Greenwood area until 1951 when he moved to Madison, where he worked as a contractor until 1958. He returned to the Greenwood area and owned and operated the Blue Mirror Bar and Bowling Alleys until retiring in 1969. He moved to Neillsville and resided here until entering the Health Care Center about a year ago.

His first marriage was to Gretchen Kurth and they were later divorced. He married Edith (Menning) Schoengarth at Greenwood June 13, 1964. She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Beverly Thorson, Fairchild Mrs. Howard (Jean) Hase, Madison Mrs. Jeff (Ardis) Hempel, Madison and Mrs. Robert (Dianne) Harms, Withee three sons, Donald Ampe, St. Petersburg, Fla. three step-children, Merlon Schoengarth, Merrillan Mrs. Bernard (Delores) Walker, Neillsville and Robert Schoengarth, Neillsville two sisters, Margaret Masson, Sarasota, Fla. And Mrs. Jones, Petal, Miss. a brother, Raymond Ampe, Marshfield 28 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren eight step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Alphonse and Theodore, and a sister, Alvina, and his parents.
