(1953) (Click

was born Jan. 3, 1894, at Webster, S.D. to Adelbert and Lottie Chapman,
the oldest child of several children. He served in World War I as a corporal in
Co. L of the 9th Infantry, from May 1, 1917, until August of 1919. His marriage to Blanche L. Seufer took place Aug. 25,
1919, at St. Paul, Minn. She was born Nov. 28, 1891. He was a barber for 24 years, and in 1930 he enrolled
at the Bible Institute at St. Paul, Minn. He was ordained in 1935 at the
Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He served churches at Spokeville, and
Viola City, Wisconsin, and at Angus, Nebraska before moving to Neillsville, in
1945. Both Leo and Blanche are buried in the
Loyal City Cemetery. Memories of Rev. Leo
J. and Blanche Chapman I first met the Chapman’s as a
teenager, at a little country Sunday School,
Peaceful Pines,
north and east of Neillsville on County Trunk C at the Henry Elmhorst farm. My
father first took our family there when there was a revival with Evangelist
Cyrus Osterhaus, in a large machine shed; and then we continued to attend the
services at the Peaceful Pines. I do not know exactly what year that was but
think it was about 1950, and I do not know just how many years Rev. Chapman was
pastor there. During that time there were several times that we teenagers had
social times at the Chapman’s home at the corner of Forrest and Fourth Street in
Neillsville. They were folks that you would remember for the rest of your life
is a comment made by Judy Marden Hanson, who also attended Peaceful Pines. I do not know in the exact years,
but early to mid 1950’s Rev. Chapman was employed by Berger’s Men’s Clothing
store in Neillsville. The Chapman’s had two children,
Gladys and Leo J, Jr. better known as Bud. Bud graduated from the Neillsville
High School with the
class of 1948. Pastor Chapman and Blanch (1964) (Click
