Alfred Fields was a soldier in the Civil War, and on his coffin was the plain but suggestive inscription , "Comrade".  He fought as a private with Co. A, 33rd Wisconsin infantry along side his older brother, Bird. He enlisted as a resident of Washburn on August 21, 1862 with the Union forces and was discharged April 14, 1863.  He was born in 1838 and married Emma Coats who was born about 1859 in Wisconsin.  Their children were: Ulisles, Clara, Alfred Jr., Elmer, Elsie and Charles Ernest (b. Apr. 30, 1885) Emma died in 1936 in Centralia, Washington.  Alfred died March 28, 1896 at the age of fifty seven.  He was the son of Dempsey (b.1810) and Lydia (Tucker) Fields.

Emily Taylor and Lucinda Taylor were sisters. There is a story to that also but not sure it is the truth or just something that got started so wouldn't repeat it. Their other sister was married to Bird and Alfred's father's 2nd wife Elizabeth Ruth Washburn's son, Frederick and that marriage ended in divorce and then Frederick married Alfred's daughter, Clara. Elizabeth and Dempsey had a son and his 1st wife was a cousin of Mary M. Townsend-second wife of Bird.
