Steven LaTart owned property in Sections 7 and 8 of Beaver Township, Clark County, WI.  For a time, that area was known by his surname and the LaTart School was built there.  The families of Anton & Mary Guskey, John Nora Hughes and Richard & Clara Walters were his neighbors. He was a Canadian born farmer and lived to be one of Clark County's oldest pioneers.  Some records show that he was a veteran, but we have not been able to make any connections to any military units at this time.  If you can help, please do let us know.  He married Julia Johnson who was born May 8, 1864 died 2 months after her 43rd birthday, July 11, 1907.  They became the parents of at least one daughter, Mabel, who was born in 1895.  When Mabel was sixteen, she married the neighbor's boy, Joseph Walters.  He was the son of Mary and step-son of Anton Guskey.  On the same day, Joseph's half sister, Mary Guskey was also married and the couples had a double wedding ceremony.  Joseph and Mabel Walters then lived on the LaTart farm.

Steven LaTart died on his 85th birthday on a winter day, December 18, 1917, and his funeral was held at the St. Mary's Church at 10:00 a.m. on the 20th.  Our documents vary concerning which cemetery he was buried in, the Greenwood City Cemetery (next to his wife), or the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
