Haas, Casper John (26 DEC 1894 - 26 NOV 1980) 

Casper John Haas, 85, of Church Street, Thorp, the last member of his family, died Thursday, November 27, 1980 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.

Mr. Haas was born December 26, 1894 at Thorp, the son of Casper and Brigetta Haas. He worked for Thorp Dairy for 25 years as a milk hauler and employee, farmed until 1958, residing in Thorp ever since.

He served in WWI, was a member of Holy Name Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Legionnaire and a member of St. Bernard's-St. Hedwig's parish. On April 17, 1918 at Thorp he was united in marriage to Laura Baures.

Surviving are six sons, Henry, Casper Jr., LaVerne, Edward and David, all of Thorp, Dennis of Menasha; four daughters, (Dorothy) Mrs. Kenneth Butterfield of Wausau, (Elaine) Mrs. Carl Reynolds of Phoenix, AZ, (Bernice) Mrs. Harvey Seaman and (Mildred) Mrs. Edward Smith, both of Thorp; 72 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Alvera Lemieux.

Funeral services were held at St. Bernard's-St. Hedwigs' Church, Saturday, November 29, 1980, 11:30 a.m. with Father John Puerner, officiating and Father Charles Schumacher, celebrant. Interment was made in St. Bernard's cemetery. Grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers: Glen Seaman, Duane Smith, Daniel Haas, Phillip Haas, Tom Reynolds, Russell Haas.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral from out-of-town were from Phoenix, AZ, Minneapolis, MN, Wausau, Rothschild, LaCrosse, Appleton, Menasha, Madison, Black River Falls, Marathon City, Wisconsin Rapids, Milwaukee, Chetek, Eau Claire, Neillsville, Colfax, Arcardia, Menomonie, Boyd and Stanley, WI.

Casper Sr., didn't feel that owning the property was enough, he felt it was important to take a direct involvement in the school, so in 1931, Casper Haas became the director. It was a post he was to hold for the next 16 years.
