Washburn (9 November 1967)

The Washburn PTA Halloween carnival was well attended at the School Friday night. Mrs. Von der Ehe had her pupils put on a short skit and musical numbers as part of the entertainment. They were enjoyed by all. Games and booths were enjoyed also.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short drove to Verona Friday, where they spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart and family, and Mrs. Frank Stewart. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bell of Janesville spent from Friday afternoon until Saturday at the Stewart home, also. Mr. and Mrs. Short accompanied the Stewart family Sunday on trip to Elgin, Ill, where they visited the Lee Ward store and had dinner at the famous “Dinner Pail” restaurant near Dundee, Ill., and also visited the Haeger pottery plant at Dundee.

Mr. and Mrs. William Groves of Viroqua spent Wednesday and Thursday last week at the Ralph Short home. She accompanied her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harry Groves, and mother, Mrs. Jess Cunningham of Viroqua, and aunt, Mrs. Cora Henry of La Farge, who visited relatives in Marshfield. Mr. and Mrs. Short and Mrs. Groves visited Mr. and Mrs. Jess Wilding Wednesday afternoon and helped Mrs. Wilding celebrate her 88th birthday. Other guests were her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Alstot, Mrs. Pete Smith, Mrs. George Beeckler, Mrs. Ed Short, Mrs. Harold Elmendorf and Donald Kalsow. Mrs. Alstot and Mrs. Smith brought birthday cakes and the other ladies brought other goodies and served a lunch. Mrs. Groves and Mr. and Mrs. Short also called on Mrs. Ole Larsen Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. Willard Allen called at the Mrs. Art Odell home Saturday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rodina of Menasha, and William Reinart and daughters, were Saturday supper guests at the John Reinart home.

Sandy Noah is employed in Neillsville Memorial Hospital.
