Ballerstein, JoAnn Ellyn (Marriage - 7 October 1967)

St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dorchester was the setting Saturday for the wedding of JoAnn Ellyn Ballerstein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ballerstein of Dorchester, to John Karl Behrend, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Behrend of Powers, Mich. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr. Sprengler before an altar graced with bouquets of red roses.

For her wedding the bride chose a bouffant-style gown of Chantilly lace. Falling from the back waistline was a long, sweeping train of nylon nenion, edged with Chantilly lace and enhanced with iridescent sequins. The fitted bodice featured long, pointed sleeves and a scalloped neckline. Her two-tiered crystal crown held a four-tiered, billowing veil of silk illusion. She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses, white carnations and stephanotis, accented with white wedding lace and satin streamers.

Miss Joan Sickler, a friend from Milwaukee, was maid-of-honor. Bridesmaids were Kathy Lenard of Chicago, Ill., a friend; Dorothy Behrend of Powers, Mich., the groom’s sister; and Mrs. Robert Meerstein, the bride’s sister, of Dorchester. Each was seen in a gown styled with light green crepe skirt, with jade green brocade top. A matching floor-length coat enhanced each dress. Their bodices featured long, tapered sleeves and matching accessories. Their head pieces held shoulder-length veils. A bouquet of yellow roses, white carnations and chrysanthemums was set off by green velvet streamers.

Miss Camie Behrend of Powers, Mich., niece of the groom and Miss Lois Ballerstein, sister of the bride were the flower girls. Each wore a dress styled with a billowing skirt with tiered nylon sheer, edged in white lace. Chapel lace headpieces and white gloves completed their ensembles. Each carried a basket of yellow daisies with greens.

Bestman was Paul Behrend, a brother, of Powers, Mich. Thomas Ballerstein, brother of the bride, and Brian Behrend, the groom’s brother were groomsmen. Ushers were Robert Meerstein of Dorchester, Melvin Behrend, the groom’s uncle, of Powers, Mich., and Thomas Behrend of Green Bay.

Mr. and Mrs. Behrend have left on a wedding trip to Canada. On their return they will live in Powers, Mich., where the groom is employed as a bakery salesman. The bride, a 1964 graduate of Edgar High School, has been employed in Milwaukee.

A special guest was Mrs. Alice Ballerstein of Wausau, grandmother of the bride.
