Selk, George Carl (26 November 1889 - 2 September 1967)

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for George C. Selk, 77, of Chili, who died Saturday in Neillsville. Services were held from the United Brethren Church in Chili, with the Rev. L. L. McCormick officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

George Carl Selk was born November 26, 1889, in Illinois and came to Clark County with his parents, when he was 16 years of age. The family located on a farm in the Town of Fremont. While assisting with the farm work, Mr. Selk was also an apprentice for Tom Gibson, a barber. He later purchased the Gibson shop and continued barbering for 51 years, retiring due to poor health. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

He served on the school board for many years. On April 23, 1916, he was married to the former Effie Harriman in Marshfield. Mr. and Mrs. Selk had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1966.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Alvord Selk of Rt. 2, Spencer; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren. Other survivors are: four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Raab of Chicago Heights, Ill., Mrs. William (Linda) Behling of Chili, Mrs. Gertrude Luehrs of Wisconsin Rapids and Mrs. Donald (Luella) Beck of Milwaukee; and by a brother, August Selk of Neillsville.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Erwin Haslow, Frank Storm, Otto Rausch, George Schecklman, Elmer Staffen and Marvin Menger. “Sunshine Tomorrow” and “Good Night, Good Morning,” were sung by Don Bersell and Charles Lindow, accompanied by Mrs. Albert Grimm.

People from out of town here for the funeral were: Mrs. Minnie Raab of Chicago Heights, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Beck of Milwaukee; Mrs. Gertrude Luehrs, Mrs. Edward Fait, and Mrs. Ralph Touschek of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. August Selk of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Williams of Waupaca; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Behling, Charles Lindow and Mr. and Mrs. David Miller of Marshfield.
