Word was received here Wednesday to the effect that Ellery Sparks, the 13-year-old son of the late John Sparks, no with his widowed mother in Montana, is lying at the point of death, the result of a runaway early this month, when he was dragged for a half mile under a mowing machine and suffering the injuries from which it is thought he cannot recover. This Sparks family formerly lived in the town of Sherwood and moved west late last year.

Mrs. Jack Free of Shanghai, China, has spent the past two weeks here with her sister Mrs. Justin Johnson on route 1. Mrs. Free will visit other relatives in Neillsville town of York, etc., and leave on the trip home in October.

Mrs. Albert Mantey, her son Robert and daughter Marion visited Pal and Dorothea at Marshfield Hospital, Monday. Dorothea is staying with Paul since last week Thursday when their mother came home. Mr. Mantey visited Paul and Dorothea on Sunday. It is expected that Paul will be able to come home yet this week.

Eldred Mallory, son of Rev. and Mrs. Wilson Mallory, had the misfortune to fracture his right arm just above the wrist last Saturday. The accident is the result of a kick from the handle of their Ford while trying to crank it.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hertz and Miss Lena Hertz, all of Weyauwega, after a week’s pleasure trip and visit among Mrs. Hertz’s relatives here, in Lynn, Chili and Marshfield, departed on the home trip on Monday. Her sister, Mrs. Chas. Neinas, accompanied them as far as Marshfield.

Mrs. Rella Osgood, Mr. and Mrs. Justin Johnson, their daughters Margaret and Elizabeth, with Mrs. Jack Free and Miss Beulah Lee, were Neillsville visitors on Wednesday.

Jesse Sparks, after a several weeks visit at Reuben Field’s, went home to Sherwood, Wednesday.

Miss Anna Teatz arrived home from Whitehall Wednesday on a several week’s vacation visit to home folk.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mantey went to Marshfield Wednesday and brought their son Paul home from the hospital there on Wednesday evening.

Miss Alma Kops of Unity, with her cousin Mrs. Krueger of Chicago, came Monday and visited relatives in the Arthur Kurth home until Wednesday, when Miss Elsie Kurth accompanied them on the home trip as far as Marshfield that afternoon.

Miss Emma Riedel of Milwaukee is here visiting at Richard Kurth’s since Wednesday.

Miss Helen Chappel of Merrimac autoed here with friends last week Thursday and continued on by train to Augusta where she is since visiting.

Ira S. Davis, the 23-year-old son of W.H. Davis of Route 3 enlisted in the Navy while at West Salem some weeks since and left for Milwaukee in response to a call to report for duty, last week Thursday. His parents and sister autoed up from home with him that afternoon.
