Cornwell, Earl J. (19 MAY 1895 - 11 APR 1963)

Earl J. Cornwell, Ely, Minn., passed away Thursday p.m., April 11, 1963 at the age of 67 years. Death was doe to coronary thrombosis.

He was born May 19, 1895 to Lowell and Sabra (Worden) Cornwell in Taylor County, Wis.

Some of his boyhood years were spent near Stanley and he went to the Eidsvold School (Clark Co., Wis.). Later his folks homesteaded near Jump River.

He married Meta Dutzle, May 10, 1922 at Medford, Wis. She still survives him. They lived in Taylor Co. until 1939, when they moved to a farm east of Stanley. The past 10 years he’s been a resident of Ely, Minn., where his main occupation was woodsman, until his illness two years ago.

He is survived by 8 daughters: Mrs. Vaughn (Amelia) Forestr, Stanley; Mrs. Julius (Frieda) Klapatauskas, Thorp; Mrs. Wallace (Vera) Kuehl, Mrs. Wayne (Meta) Murphy, Forest Center, Minn.; Mrs. Roy (Eva) Mabie, Mrs. Maynard (Lois) Hartsnorn, Ely, Minn.; Mrs. Don (Gladys) Mabie, Mrs. Tom (Phyllis) Mabie, Kennan, Wis.; 5 sons: Calvin, St. Paul Park, Minn.; Vernon, Markesan, Wis.; Leland, Ripon, Wis.; David and Herbert, Ely, Minn.

He’s also survived by three sisters, Mrs. A.R. (Julia) Burss, Hannibal, Wis.; Mrs. Jud (Augusta) Royce, Jump River, and Mrs. Oscar (Lulumae) Everson, Withee. There are also 44 living grandchildren. One son and two grandsons preceded him in death.

He was a WWI Veteran, and an American Legion member.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 15 at 2 o’clock from Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley. Clergyman was Peter Hunter and Jim Bar(?). Music was by Della Williams.

Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Withee, with military honors.
