Scheel, Dorothy M. (24 AUG 1917 - 21 AUG 2012)

Dorothy M. Scheel, 94, of Owen, formerly of Loyal and Neillsville, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at the Clark County Health Care Center, in Owen. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Thorp Funeral Home, in Thorp. Brian Kuehmichel will officiate and burial will follow in the Loyal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Boie, Michael Loucks, Greg Canfield, Vince Canfield, Adam Canfield, Isaac Scheel, Dan Scheel and Robert Scheel, Jr. Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home, on Saturday, from 9am until time of service.

Dorothy Mae Williams was born on August 24, 1917, in the town of Sherry (rural Milladore), Wood County, WI, the daughter of John Richard and Etta Mae (Spencer) Williams. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in area schools, graduating from high school at Wisconsin Rapids Agriculture School in 1935. Dorothy moved to Boise, ID, where she attended beauty school and worked as a cosmetologist for 7 years. She returned to Milwaukee and worked as a waitress for Walgreens. Dorothy was united in marriage to Ralph Robert Scheel, Jr. on October 19, 1943. They resided in Oconomowoc until moving to Loyal in 1948. In 1960, they purchased a farm in Neillsville and farmed until retiring in 1985. Dorothy was a homemaker and farm wife all of her married life. After retiring, they moved to Curtiss where they lived for several years.

She was a member of the Clark County Homemakers and had many interests, but especially loved gardening, sewing, reading, singing and dancing.

She is survived by 11 children, Larry (Donna) of Brookfield; Dale of Green Bay; Robert of Marshfield; Henry (Margaret) of Marshfield; Peter (Jane) of Marshfield; Arthur (Burny) of Granton; Ralph III of Granton; Audrey (Michael) Berger and Faith (Duane) Boie, both of Medford; Joy (Vince) Canfield of Neillsville; Betty Lou Scheel of Ontario; 55 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Lena Dumesic, Faith Poplawski and Ruth Ertl, all of Racine, WI; Mary Roskilly of Valdosta, GA; one sister-in-law, Bettie Williams of Antigo, WI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph, on August 21, 2008; a son: James Scheel; a daughter, Julie Ann Scheel, in infancy; and 4 grandchildren, Troy Scheel, Jamie Scheel, Douglas Loucks, Elizabeth Loucks.
