Hart, Charles (8 MAR 1827 - 30 DEC 1913)

 "Grandpa" Charles Hart departed from this life on Wednesday of last week, Dec. 30^th, 1913.  He had reached the advanced age of 86 years, 9 months and 22 days.  Mr. Hart was born in White Bay, Canada, March 8^th, 1827.  When but a small boy he moved to Napanee, Can., with his parents and there grew to manhood.  He mastered the wagon makers are and worked at that trade many years.  At the age of 25 years he was married to Miss Serepta Allen and for years they resided at Castleton, Can., where he had a good business working at his trade.

Twenty eight years ago, deceased came to this country and took up a homestead near Humbird.  Then his sons Norman and George came.  Norman too took up a homestead near there and three sons marrying and remaining here; his son Fred came later.  Deceased made his home among them.  It was at the home of his son George that the final summons came.  He had been indisposed several weeks and went into a rapid decline a few days previous to his death.

He is survived by his wife and four of their children namely, Riley, of Castleton, Ont., with whom his wife resides, Norman of Humbird, and Fred and George of this place.  Two of their children died quite young.  Their only daughter and oldest child Nancy was married to one Jonathan Garfield and she at her death left this husband and three children surviving.  They reside in Canada.  His son John died 2 years ago at his come in Canada.  One of John's sons Wesley by name has since come and taken up his residence here with his uncle Fred Hart.  Besides his immediate family deceased is survived by two sisters and a number of grandchildren.

The remains accompanied by the families of his sons George and Fred were taken to Humbird last week Thursday and the funeral was held from the Free Methodist Church of which deceased had been a member many years.  Interment was made in the village cemetery there and all that was mortal of “Grandpa†Hart was laid to rest near the bodies of many of his first neighbors here in this country.
