Granton Locals (11 May 1967)

William Lehmann retired Friday as janitor in the Granton school system after 18 years of service. Henry Winkler is now the day janitor and Doug Crandall serves as the night janitor.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hillert visited Sunday in Tomah with their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hillert, and family, and attended the confirmation of their granddaughter, Susan Hillert.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Fero visited Sunday evening with Jennie Porath of Owen.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helm entertained a group of relatives Sunday in honor of Mrs. Helm’s mother, Mrs. Christina Garbisch, on her 91st birthday.

Van L. Kayser was taken to Memorial Hospital in Neillsville Monday noon and then was transferred to a hospital in Marshfield. A piece of meat that had lodged in his esophagus was removed.

Carl Storm is receiving medical care in a Marshfield hospital.

Guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Max Opelt, who helped Max observe his birthday, were: Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Opelt of Neillsville; John Opelt of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Opelt of White Bear Lake, Minn.; and Jim McGrath of La Crosse. Mrs. Douglas Opelt and two children of White Bear Lake, Minn., joined the group later Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bladl of Ripon spent last week at their home in the village.

Mrs. Henry Embke and Mrs. Minnie Stasiak of Neillsville visited Saturday evening at the Ollie Poler home.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Fields visited Sunday in Sherwood with his brother and father, Alfred and Reuben Fields.

Mrs. Arnold Garbisch accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Douglas Opelt and two children to White Bear lake, Minn., Monday for a few days’ visit.

Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Jahr of Marshfield were Sunday guests at the William Lehmann home.

William Naedler, Sr., is convalescing at his home following surgery in the Marshfield hospital.

Mrs. Fred Steinich of Menomonee Falls has been spending several days with her mother, Mrs. Bert Hayden.

Mr. and Mrs. William Schmidtke were dinner guests Friday evening of the Misses Pearle and Daphne Beeckler.

The Granton Women’s Civic club will meet Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Rosetta Meyer. The topic, “Communism,” will be presented by Mrs. Marvin Garbisch.

The W. S. C. S. of the Granton Methodist Church is meeting this (Thursday) afternoon in the church parlors. Miss Ruth Pietenpol and Mrs. William Schmidtke will present a summary of the year’s programs. Hostesses will be Mrs. Clarence Ganther and Mrs. Floyd Pietenpol.

Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Lehmann were their daughters, Mrs. Maynard Fox of Bloomington, Minn., and husband, and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Smith and three children of Appleton.
